THANK YOU by Oprah Winfrey

I live in the space of thankfulness - and I have been rewarded a million
times over for it. I started out giving thanks for small things, and the
more thankful I became, the more my bounty increased.
That's because what you focus on expands, and when you focus on the
goodness in your life, you create more of it.

Opportunities, relationships, even money flowed my way when I learned to
be grateful no matter what happened in my life. "Say thank you!"
Those words from my friend and mentor Maya Angelou turned my life
Around.

One day about ten years ago, I was sitting in my bathroom with the door
closed and the toilet lid down, booing and a hooing on the phone so
uncontrollably that I was incoherent.

"Stop it! Stop it right now and say thank you!" Maya chided.

"But - you don't understand," I sobbed.

To this day, I can't remember what it was that had me so far gone, which
only proves the point Maya was trying to make.
"I do understand," she told me. "I want to hear you say it now....Out
loud."

"Thank you.'" Tentatively, I repeated it: "Thank you - but what am I
saying thank you for?"

"You're saying thank you," Maya said, "because your faith is so strong
that you don't doubt that whatever the problem, you'll get through it.
You're saying thank you because you know that even in the eye of the
storm, God has put a rainbow in the clouds.
You're saying thank you because you know there's no problem created that
can compare to the Creator of all things. Say thank you!"
So I did - and still do. Only now I do it every day.

I kept a gratitude journal, as Sarah Ban Breathnach suggests in Simple
Abundance, list at least five things that I'm grateful for. My list
includes small pleasures:

The feel of Kentucky bluegrass under my feet (like damp silk); A walk in
the w oods with all nine of my dogs and my cocker spaniel Sophie trying
to keep up; Cooking fried green tomatoes with Stedman and eating them
while they're hot; Reading a good book and knowing another awaits.

My thank-you list also includes things too important to take for
granted:

An "okay" mammogram, friends who love me, 25 years at the same job (and
loving it more than the first day I started), a chance to share my
vision for a better life, staying centered, having financial security.

I won't kid you, having money for all the things I want is a blessing.
But as I look back over my journals, which I've kept since I was 15
years old, 99 per cent of what brought me real joy had nothing to do
with money.(It had a lot to do with food, however.)

It's not easy being grateful all the time. But it's when you feel least
thankful that you are most in need of what gratitude can give
you:

PERSPECTIVE.

And as Meister Eckhart so eloquently stated: "If the only prayer you
ever say in your whole life is 'Thank you God', that would suffice."

THANK YOU GOD !!! AMEN.

For all to enjoy.

For all to enjoy. Thanks.

Dance i want to dance

a teacher i did seek

who would fine tune my senses and teach me the beat

i gave solo performances

it was fame i did seek

it was me and mine

my potential, my creativity that i wanted to unleash.

Dance i want to dance

a partner i did seek

to dance in togetherness

leading and being lead

following and being followed

never losing touch with harmony

never missing a step

looking two being one

in rhythm with the universe.

Dance i want to dance

a master i did seek

he taught me to hear the music of silence

and walk the steps of stillness.

to free myself from the need of ornaments, instruments and accompaniments

from the very need of the other, from himself

knowing that i am the joyful dance and

effortlessly already all that i sought.

I am my own...

Simple Reminders

Dear all,

Here are some simple reminders excerpted from a book called Ordering from the Cosmic Kitchen.

Enjoy! And cook!

Love,

Rohini

People often worry that changing their lives will be difficult because it takes a lot of time and energy. This is only a negative thought and it can be changed! Making changes in life can be fun, exciting, and easy. Starting with changing your thoughts is actually easy. It doesn't really take ANY time at all because you are already always thinking. However it does take awareness!

Are you willing to take 10 minutes a day to change your life?

The following is a list of ten "One Minute Transformers." These are one minute techniques that you can use immediately to make changes.

Take a minute to....

  • remember all the things you are grateful for
  • practice conscious, deep breathing
  • scan your body for tension, breathe, and release it
  • look in the mirror and tell yourself you approve of yourself
  • acknowledge your emotions and feelings about something
  • send love to someone or someplace on the planet
  • forgive yourself or someone else
  • tell someone what you appreciate about them
  • write down a creative idea
  • really look at a flower and enjoy it's essence
  • practice FEELING the presence of Spirit guiding you in your life

Travel Club for Women

Hello Friends

We go white water rafting this time to Shivpuri. It's women's day on 8th March. The trip (9, 10 and 11 March) take into account the weekend.

Like all our holidays, this one too is about defining our spaces, claiming our place in the sun and making friends.

Ask for more details. This is a good thing.

Forward this message to friends who might want the 'other' kind of experience.

Regards

Meenakshi Puri

Desperately seeking love.

A tiny, traumatized, beautifully black female pup is looking for a home, and love.
I am going to temporarily take the pup in.

She arrives on Monday, 12 Feb evening as the people who rescued her leave Delhi. But my life is tied up with parenting two toddlers and so...

Could you please circulate this message to our spiritual family and maybe we’ll find the parents for the puppy? I can be contacted at sen(dot)gargi(at)gmail(dot)com

Thanks a mil,
Gargi

Guru Yoga

Hi,

I normally don't post anything from my personal/ business blog here, but making an exception for this one post :). I hope you enjoy. Please do leave your comments - I would look forward.

Love,

R

kanika-yoga.jpg

My conversation with Kanika sometime ago (that’s her in the pic), about her Yoga workshop, made me think about distinct styles that each of my teachers use and the unique learning each of them left me with, without any of them making any obvious effort. Simple but deep.

  1. The first time I ever attempted yoga was around 2001- twice a week, Mishra ji would come to our office in the evenings to conduct sessions. My then relatively younger body had never really exercised (other than active sport that I enjoyed all my growing up years) and even a simple Vajra Asan would leave me (and the others too :) ) in pain. Witnessing our discomfort, Misra ji, in his inimitable style, would urge us to “Enjoy the pain.” Partly how it was said and partly the seeming irony of that statement would invariably have us laughing, but lo, as we started to ‘enjoy’, the pain would disappear.

I was to subsequently use this learning in challenging times, as I finally brought myself to a point that I could look pain in the eye and smile at it, it would start to melt, soon disappearing. Things would actually start to sort themselves out.

I miss Mishra ji’s classes and would love to go back to them some day.
  2. Continue reading the post here.
